Holiday Gifts for Travelers

Travel Tips

It's that time of year again and if you're scratching your head at what to get your friends and loved ones for the upcoming holidays, you are not alone! I spent the majority of November and the beginning of December in a panic. But if you have some travelers in your family, or even campers, there are a couple things you just can't go wrong with this holiday season. Even I asked for some of the things on this list!

Selfie Stick

Ok this is only slightly embarrassing to put on your list. But for those that prefer traveling alone, this is a must! How else are you going to get your picture taken all over the world? This one is foldable and also has a remote and bluetooth!

Tripod

If your traveler is a big on photography, or they like traveling alone, a tripod will also help them get snapshots of them in different countries. It is also really useful for steadying your shots. I have one that came with my camera, and many do, but sometimes things break (oops) or you need a different size. Be sure to check what they have first! The one linked above is a pretty sturdy standard one and works will all kinds of camera models.

Collapsible Water Bottle

Who knew this was a thing? I didn't until a few weeks ago and I'm wondering why no one told me about it! I have this great habit of breaking water bottles and part of the reason I never carry one is because they are such a bother, even empty! How useless. I recently got this fold-able one which is great for hikes and getting on a plane-you can have it folded in your carry on until you get through security! And I find a lot of them to be cheaper than many traditional water bottles.

Instant Cameras

My sister in law had one of these and to be honest, I thought how weird, oh how cute. But I used a couple times and then had to go out and buy my own. These are way too fun! It can be hard to find people who like having their picture taken, but really, no one doesn't like a Polaroid style camera. I have the purple one above but they also make starter kits so your traveler doesn't have to go out and buy film and accessories before they can use it.

These aren't "Polaroid" products (they're FujiFilm) and I have loved them so far but Polaroid has created a new version of their original instant camera that is slightly more expensive but it is definitely a step up from the FujuFilm instant cameras. These are great if your traveler wants to update their instant camera!

Packing Cubes

Again, why didn't anyone tell me about this? I like to be crazy over organized so these packing cubes are perfect for me; I have two sets! They are also great to save space when you're packing and running out of room in your suitcase (guilty as charged). They come in all sorts of colors and are super light.

Travel Cameras

PowerShot G3X Canon camera

This is a pretty daunting thing to approach, it took me a long time to settle on a camera for my travel photography. The one above is really good for beginner travelers as well as experienced ones that are looking for a compact camera. Yes, this is a compact camera and is not the most fabulous one out there you can find, but it is a great travel camera! I have always used Canon cameras and had a lot of success with them.

If you already have a camera in mind, you can check if this store has it and this link will give you free shipping

Power adapter

Don't underestimate the need for these! I am so glad we brought one on my trip to Sweden!

Scratch off Map

OK WHAT. This is not for travels but definitely for travelers. It is a full map and when you have visited somewhere, you scratch it and a color comes through! I need this. Going on my Christmas list right meow.

Wallet/Passport Holder

Helps your organized traveler stay organized! Have everything in one place for quick access. Super cute and super functional (and not super expensive!)

Cord Organizer

If you have a lot of electronics (phone, tablet, laptop, chargeable cameras...you know) then this could come in handy. The last thing I want is to get to my destination and not be able to charge my camera. These keep the cords untangled and organized.

I hope these help you guys in your search for gifts for your loved ones! I know I added a few things to my list AND my cart while making this... :)

Siggi Einarson

My name is Siggi-dubbed by my American friends because of the Icelandic yogurt-I am a writer, polyglot, and aspiring expat, not a cup of yogurt (unfortunately).

My love for travelling began with a trip to Iceland and Sweden to visit my family when I was just 15 years old. I spent so long dreaming of the possibilities of life abroad but I always figured these dreams were too far reached. Flash forward almost 10 years, here I am again, both cursing and thanking this damn travel bug.
