The Voyaging Viking

Culture, language learning, & slow travel with your friendly neighborhood Viking

I am a 20-something nerd, lover of European history, language learner, and proponent of slow travel.

So maybe "friendly" isn't exactly what comes to mind when you think of Vikings and my red hair tells me that the above statement is contradictory. Perhaps I am a reform Viking?

What is slow travel?

I don't travel to simply cross countries off a list or visit as many towns or provinces as humanly possible in a limited amount of time. Personally, I find that exhausting and it doesn't fit my idea of travel whatsoever. Traveling presents the unique opportunity to experience new cultures, learn languages, meet new people, and try weird food. It's important to me to make an effort to visit like a local. I crave the off-the-beaten-path experiences, the nooks and crannies, and the cities oozing with history.

For these reasons, you will see that I tend to spend a longer amount of time in one place than others might. My goal is to experience a place in the way a local might see it. I like to dive into the language and culture of a place and explore all of the historical snippets I can find.
